Home Safety and Injury Prevention Course

Falls are the top risk in home care. This course equips your staff to identify hidden hazards, prevent injuries, and create safer living spaces that keep seniors safe, comfortable, and confident.

Keeping a Fall-free Home: A Complete Guide

Senior adults are increasingly choosing to stay in their homes instead of a care facility, but this has its own set of risks. Among these risks include fall-related injuries, which are the leading cause of death in older adults. Falls are also the most common cause of nonfatal injuries and hospital admissions for trauma. In fact, according to CDC, more than a third of adults who are 65 years old and older fall each year. This is among the many reasons that caregiving in the home setting can be challenging. Falls can lead to serious injuries, including head injuries and hip fractures which can then have a negative physical and psychological effect on the person. Older adults have a much higher risk for hip fractures; people of age 85 and older are 10 times more likely to break a hip than those who are aged 60-65 years.

Caregivers should always try their best to prevent falls and injuries, but they may find it difficult to know where to start, as there are many hidden hazards in every home.
